The story begins with Aart and Katrijn who married in 1646 in Ledeacker, a small village in the east of the province Noord-Brabant in het Land van Cuyck<\/em> in the Netherlands. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Arts family tree expands via Beugen, Sint Anthonis and many other places in the south east of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Already from 1850 onwards quite a few Arts family members leave the Netherlands and settle abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Already in 1856 the first Arts emigrates to the US. In a period of 100 years in total eight Arts family members make this journey. Some travel as singles, some as newlyweds and some with young children. The first two go by sailing ship, the ones travelling after 1880 go by steamship and the last two take a plane in the late 1950s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six of the eight Arts family members settle in Wisconsin near Lake Michigan in places like Sheboygan, Little Chute and De Pere. There has been a Dutch Brabant catholic enclave in this area since 1848. You will not only find many Dutch names here but also a windmill and even a schut<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In der zweiten H\u00e4lfte des 19. Jahrhundert wanderten einige nach Preu\u00dfen aus.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So zog um 1850 eine gro\u00dfe Familie Ardts\/Artz nach Kessel und ihre Enkelkinder gr\u00fcndeten Familien in D\u00f6rfern wie Pfalzdorf, Hassum und Goch.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rund 1855 zogen die zwei Br\u00fcder Jasper und Hendrikus Arts nach Preu\u00dfen. Sie nannten sich Caspar und Heinrich Artz. Caspar hatte mehrere (Enkel)kinder in Frintrop und Borbeck (Essen).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martinus Arts heirate 1895 eine deutsche Frau in Keppeln und sie hatten auch viele (Enkel)kinder in Deutschland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auch zwei Cousins Arts zogen am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts nach Deutschland. Hendrikus (Heinrich) Arts gr\u00fcndete eine Familie in Osterfeld (Oberhausen); Johannes (Johann) Arts in Sevelen (in der N\u00e4he von Geldern und Issum).<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The golden shield with the two red bars refers to the coat of arms of the Land van Cuijk: the place of \u200b\u200borigin of our family. The symbols represent the professions that our ancestors had between 1650 and 1800 (in addition to their profession as farmers). These were beer brewer and baker (the grain sheaves), cattle trader and butcher (the pigs) and sheriff and alderman (the crossed halberds).<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
